Valley Fair is a place everyone will love to go to.
By Jack Ryan
Valley Fair is one of my most favorite places to be during the summer. It is just a beautiful place that anybody of all ages can go to. Everything about Valley Fair is just perfect in my opinion
One reason I really like valleyfair is just how beautiful it looks in general. The colors on all of the rides are so cool. Like the different shades of green on the Wild Thing just go together so well. All the rides have really good color combinations on them and they just make the park look 10x better. The workers there are all very nice and can get you help with anything you need around the park. Any questions I have, all the staff know how to answer them. I have never had a problem with anything at the park. Everything just runs very smoothly and very well done. The rides there are amazing. My personal favorite ride in the whole park would probably be Renegade. It is the wooden roller coaster towards the back of the park. I love how fast it is and how much it can make you feel like you're floating. SOme may say the ride is too aggressive but I think the aggressiveness makes the coaster 10x better Overall Valleyfair is a great place anywhere you can go and have a great time there. Everything about the park is just amazing (except the amount of bees there are). Everyone of all ages can go there find something that they can do and have a great time. |

After a long harsh winter, spring has finally sprung
by Eli Ekegren
Many Minnesotans are very happy as the weather they had been experiencing over the long winter has been seeming to reach an end. Those in the state who aren’t fans of the cold weren’t very thrilled with the way the weather was with heavy snow all the way into April.
The weather has been looking up though, with temperatures reaching up to 80℉, and many, myself included, are very happy about it. The grass is greener, flowers are blooming, and the sun being out has put smiles on the faces of many as the seasons are making a change that has been much anticipated for a long time. The winters in the state always seem to be very long, but maybe waiting for springtime makes it much more enjoyable. |

4 exciting ideas of what to do when you are bored
by Viktoria Wiegelmann
We all have those days on which we just don’t know what to do. All of our friends seem to be busy, and we’ve spent the whole day just sitting around and procrastinating. Here are four things that you could try to do if you’re having one of those days today:
Go outside You may think that you’ve already explored everything in your neighborhood or town, but there is always something new to discover and nature always has some new surprises for you in store. So just put on your sneakers, grab a jacket and try leaving your phone inside. Try to actively pay attention to what is around you while you go on a little walk or bike ride! Do yoga In my opinion, yoga is one of the most peaceful, but at the same time, most challenging sports. There are thousands of free online yoga classes for all different levels and you might be surprised by how much you like it. And haven’t you secretly always wanted to be able to do a headstand? Learn something new Maybe your family has a piano sitting around and no one has played it in a long time, or you have an old guitar in the basement that no one uses. Just look up tutorials for easy to learn songs on the internet and try to learn them. And after being able to play your first song you will feel really accomplished. Maybe there is also a language you wanted to learn, maybe it’s just how to do a headstand or you want to start hand lettering. Just find something that will make your time valuable and that keeps you from staring at your phone or watching netflix all day. Go through your closet Most of us probably have a lot of belongings in our house or our room that we don’t even use. They actually just block our way sometimes and take space for new things that we want to buy. So if you have a day of free time, it might be a good idea to go through what you have and decide what you want to keep and what to away to others, sell or recycle. You might even make a little money by doing that. Consider selling on a flea market or doing a garage sale to see if others can use what you don’t need anymore. |
Tips and tricks to survive driving in the winter
By Tanner Luetjens
Here are the following things to survive driving in the winter
Engine Block Heaters: If your car is equipped with one of these it can make starting your car a breeze when we get sub zero temperatures. Headlights: Making sure your headlights are clean and turned on can make it easier for you to see and easier for cars to see you as well. Windshield Wipers: Having good windshield wipers can help you clear thick snow and ice off in the winter and having new wipers won’t streak and make it hard for you to see. Tires: Most modern snow tires use a combination of unique tread patterns and specially formulated rubber that remains soft at cold temperatures to maintain traction on ice and snow. Safety: Cars break down so you may want a basic winter survival kit in your vehicle flashlight, batteries, blanket, snacks, water, gloves, boots, fire starters, first-aid kit. If you do all of these things then you will be safer and will be well prepared for winter driving. |
Fun activities for the winter months
By Jack Foss, Bryce Pettit, Alex Sewell & Hamdija Mustafic
If you are ever bored this winter or just need a release from the day to day monotony of school, check out these activities:
Downhill Skiing or Snowboarding- Fly down the slopes at local places like Hyland or Afton Alps. Sledding- Local hills such as High Point Park or Central Park in Brooklyn Park provide great places to let loose and fly down hills. Cross Country Skiing- If downhill isn’t your speed, try strapping on a pair of cross country skis and visit local ski trails like Theodore Wirth Park or Elm Creek Park Reserve. Pond Hockey- Gather up some friends or just head up to the local rink for some pickup. Minnesota is the State of Hockey after all. Snowmobiling- If physical activity isn’t your forte, find a snowmobile and go flying across lakes and trails. Some skill is required however. Ice Fishing- Just because the water is frozen doesn’t mean the fish are gone. Grab a few poles, cut a hole, and drop in a line for some fun lake time in the winter. Tubing- Another take on sledding, plenty of tubing hills are located in the area including Elm Creek Park Reserve just 10 minutes from Champlin Park. Snowball Fight- If you ever need to relieve stress during the winter months, get some friends together for a snowball fight. Throwing a few snowballs at your friends can provide a sweet escape from the boredom of everyday life. Take Pictures- Take advantage of the beautiful scenery abound during the winter months and snap some pictures. Snowshoeing- Snowshoeing is a fun way to explore the outdoors without getting too wet from the snow. |

5 steps to your best summer self
By Hailey Williams & Cassidy Wester
1) Confidence:
Before you start thinking about thinking about all the bikinis and short shorts, you need to have enough body positive energy to start your summer adventures. No one is perfect and we all could have all little more confidence and not compare ourselves to each other. The feelings of jealousy are always a bit higher when the sun’s out. So make sure you love yourself. 2) Consider eating habits: While it is hard counting calories, a better alternative is being mindful of the foods you eat. Substituting one sugary snack for a healthy one can have a huge effect on your daily calorie intake without the hassle of counting up all those pesky calories. 3) Hit the gym: Working out can be a struggle for everyone. Making the effort to go just twice a week can create a huge difference in your daily life. You’ll gain energy, confidence and endurance. If the gym isn't a place for you, there are many changes you can make in your life to substitute going to the gym. Taking the stairs vs the elevator, walking/ biking versus driving etc. There are many things to do to prepare you and your body for summer time, consider going to the gym an important key. 4) Find the perfect fit: We all know the feeling of having absolutely nothing to wear! Before the summer starts get a head start on all the latest trends. Broke from all those mid-winter fast food runs? Check out your local Goodwill for some crazy unique pieces. Upcycling thrift store clothing is a great way to be one of a kind and save money. 5) Reduce stress: The stresses of school will soon be coming to an end. Although for some people, stress doesn't end with the school year. It is important to not only put school out of your mind, but relax and take time for yourself. Putting yourself first is step one to a great summer. Now that school is no longer your number one, take the extra time to get ready, sleep in the extra hour, take the night to stay in and watch Netflix. Not only is summer a time for fun in the sun, but a time to recharge your body and mind for the next school year. |

Five amazing benefits of swimming
By Jane Maertens
Summer is here, school is out and you have an endless amount of free time. You could spend all that time inside your house binge watching Netflix, but theres not a lot of good coming from that. Instead a more beneficial summer activity would be swimming, and here’s five reasons why.
1. Swimming burns calories. A normal casual swim can burn about 500 calories! This is perfect for anyone wanting to slim down for the summer or just be healthier in general. You can take it up a notch and lose up to 700 calories while gaining muscle and bone mass. 2. A good way to help your skin stay clear is swimming in a chlorinated pool. Chlorine attacks acne causing bacteria . If you remember to wash and moisturize your face as usual then the chlorine can be quite the remedy. In addition to that being in the sun can give you a nice tan to even out your skin color. 3. Hanging out at the pool and inviting friends to go swimming with you is an easy way to make and strengthen friendships. There are only a few people that would refuse a day at the pool or beach. Plus there are tons of fun pool games to play with a group or party, such as Marco Polo, sharks and minos, and races. 4. Choosing to swim in a river or lake is a great way to bring you closer to nature. What's better than swimming ? Swimming with a great view. Trying to get away from everything and just have fun is way easier when you're around nature, it's really pretty and gives a feeling of well-being. 5. The most amazing benefit of all has to be that swimming is relaxing and a good way to relieve stress. After a whole school year of homework and tests and being stuck on your GPA you can finally take a break and the best way to forget about all of the work is floating in a cool pool on a hot day. With these five things in mind you can now tackle the summer months and get yourself healthy and relaxed for the next winter. Don't be afraid to have fun in the pool, lake , or river. This summer is the best time to start feeling better and being happier and now we know the best way to do that is by diving in head first. |
